Why does comparing yourself to others take away your power?

Every person has their own path, their own rhythm and their own pace of growth, so comparing yourself to others really makes no sense. It is a bit like trying to run in someone else’s shoes that look beautiful but do not fit your feet and will not take you where you are meant to go. When you start looking at others as a measure of your own worth it becomes very easy to lose yourself. At some point instead of enjoying the path you are on and everything you have already achieved you feel like you are falling behind. Instead of noticing your progress you only see what is missing. In this way you take away the joy of your own pace which is one of a kind and exactly as it is meant to be.

The truth is that your worth does not depend on what others are doing or how fast they get somewhere. You do not become “more” or “less” just because someone achieved something faster or differently than you. Your worth is constant and unchanging. Comparing yourself to others works like an invisible drain of energy. Instead of investing it in your own dreams you give it away to watching other people’s achievements. Instead of looking in your own direction you look to the side and lose sight of your own goal.

Every step you take matters. Even if it seems small compared to someone else’s big leap it is exactly what builds your own path. You do not need to ask yourself why others already have what you do not have yet. What truly matters is asking yourself what small thing you can do today to get closer to the life of your dreams. This question shifts your focus from the outside to the inside and that is where your power is.

A daily gratitude practice can help you notice that you already have many reasons to feel proud and joyful. Write down three things each day that are already your success and show that you are on the right path. This simple exercise teaches you to look at yourself with love instead of criticism and reminds you that you are walking a beautiful path not someone else’s but your own.

You are not here to compete with others or to race for who gets there faster. You are here to overcome your own limitations and to be closer to yourself every single day. When you stop comparing yourself your energy comes back to you. Peace returns clarity returns and the feeling that everything is exactly as it is meant to be.
