Each of us enters relationships carrying a certain baggage of experiences, even if we are not always aware of it. The way we respond to closeness, how we experience conflicts, and how we build bonds is not a matter of chance. At the core of these reactions lie attachment styles – emotional patterns that are formed already in early childhood and later influence our relationships, often in an unconscious way.
Anxious attachment style causes us to strongly crave closeness, reassurance of love, and the constant presence of the other person in relationships. At the same time, it is accompanied by a deep fear of rejection and abandonment. Any distance from a partner may be perceived as a threat, triggering anxiety, tension, and a need to control the relationship. Love then becomes a source of intense emotions, but also of constant vigilance.
The avoidant attachment style works in the opposite direction. People with this pattern often desire relationships, yet at the same time fear too much closeness. Intimacy may be associated with a loss of freedom, dependence, or being hurt, which leads to a need for distance, withdrawal, or emotional self-sufficiency. In such relationships, it is easy for emotional coldness to appear, along with avoidance of difficult conversations and confronting emotions.
Styl bezpieczny to zdolność do bycia blisko bez lęku i bez ucieczki.
It is not about judging your attachment style as good or bad. Each of them developed as a form of adaptation to specific conditions. However, becoming aware of your own patterns gives you the ability to choose. When you begin to understand why you react in certain ways, you stop operating on autopilot and start building relationships more consciously.
Pause for a moment and take a closer look at yourself. Notice which attachment style feels closest to you and how it shows up in your relationships. Observe how you respond to distance, conflict, and closeness. See which relational patterns you carried with you from your family home and how they influence your current choices. This reflection is the first step toward creating relationships based on security rather than fear or avoidance.
Relationships are one of the most important spaces for growth. It is within them that we most often confront our own patterns, but also where we have the greatest opportunity for healing and change. Awareness of attachment style allows us to stop repeating old patterns and begin building bonds based on harmony, authenticity, and truth.
In my e-book “The Duality of Harmony – Choosing the Path to Balance” I show how to recognize attachment styles in everyday relationships and how to move step by step toward a secure attachment style. You will find concrete tools and practices there that help heal relational patterns and create relationships based on trust, closeness, and freedom at the same time.
💛 This is the second e-book in the series “Journey to Yourself” – a series in which I show how to regain balance in the relationship with yourself and with others. The second stage of this journey opens the door to deeper relationships, where you no longer have to choose between fear and escape, because you begin to build from a place of security.
