Many people believe that we make the best decisions thanks to analysis and logical thinking. We were taught to be guided by reason, to gather arguments and to choose what seems most rational. Meanwhile, the body reacts faster than the mind and often knows earlier what is good for us and what is not. It is in it that emotions, experiences, and intuition are stored, which we are not always able to name with words.
The body’s signals appear particularly clearly in moments of choice. When a decision is aligned with you, you may feel calm, lightness, or freedom in your breathing. The body relaxes, and the tension gradually disappears. If, on the other hand, something is not for you, there is often a tightness in the stomach, tension in the shoulders, a rapid heartbeat, or a feeling of heaviness. These are natural reactions that inform you that a given situation is not aligned with your needs or values.
The problem is that many of us have learned to ignore the signals coming from the body. We have become accustomed to trusting only logic and to treating physical reactions as something secondary. As a result, we make decisions that are reasonable on paper, but in the longer perspective lead to tension, fatigue, or a feeling of lack of meaning.
Listening to the body is a process of returning to yourself. It is learning to recognize subtle signals and to treat them seriously. It is not about acting impulsively, but about taking the wisdom of the body into account on an equal footing with the analysis of the mind. When you begin to make decisions based on internal coherence, greater certainty and calm appear.
It is worth pausing for a moment and noticing how your body reacts in different situations. To see when tension appears and when a sense of relief appears. To look at the moments in which ignoring the body’s signals led to difficult experiences. This mindfulness allows you to gradually regain contact with your own internal compass.
The body can also distinguish between tension resulting from fear of change and tension that says something is not right for you. The first often accompanies new challenges and over time gives way to curiosity or excitement. The second remains and intensifies, signaling a lack of alignment with your own values or needs.
When you learn to listen to your body, you regain not only calm but also a sense of agency. Decisions stop being the result of external pressure and become an expression of who you truly are. This is one of the foundations of living in harmony and authenticity.
In my e-book “The Duality of Harmony – Choosing the Path to Balance” I show how to develop mindfulness toward the signals coming from the body and how to use them when making decisions. You will find practices there that help regain contact with intuition, reduce tension, and act from a place of internal coherence.
💛 This is the second e-book in the series “Journey to Yourself” – a cycle that step by step leads to a life full of awareness, balance, and authenticity. This stage of the journey invites you to let your body become your ally and guide in everyday choices.
