What to do when you feel that everything is falling apart – How to regain stability in chaos?

There are moments in life when many things change at the same time. Work, relationships, place of residence, sense of direction. What previously gave you support suddenly stops being certain. Chaos, tension and a feeling appear that you are losing ground under your feet.

In such moments a natural reaction is an attempt to quickly “get a handle on” everything. Searching for solutions, analyzing, controlling. The problem is that the greater the chaos, the less forceful handling works. It is exactly then that something completely different is the most important.

Return to basics.

When you feel that everything is falling apart, your body and nervous system need stabilization, not more analyses. Therefore the first step is to stop and return to the body. Notice the breath, the tension, the fatigue. Even a few minutes of conscious breathing can lower the level of stress and give you some space.

The second step is simple, daily rituals. In chaos it is not about doing more. It is about returning to what is basic and repeatable. Sleep, food, movement, a moment of silence. It is exactly these elements that stabilize the nervous system and help to regain a sense of safety.

The third important element is limiting the excess of stimuli. When everything is changing, it is easy to overload the head even more with information, conversations and analysis. Meanwhile calm begins with simplicity. Less chaos on the outside means more space inside.

Ask yourself one question: what is now the most important at this moment, and not for the whole life? Chaos often results from the attempt to solve everything at once. Meanwhile stability returns when you focus on one step that you can take now.

Remember also that the moment of falling apart is very often a moment of transition. It is a stage in which old structures stop working, but the new ones have not yet arranged themselves. It is uncomfortable, but needed. It is exactly in this space that real change begins.

You do not have to have all the answers right away. It is enough that you return to yourself and begin to build stability from the inside. Step by step.

In my e-book “The Four Foundations. Building Stability and Security." I show how to cope with such moments and how to build an internal sense of safety even when life is changing. I share practices that help to regain calm and a sense of direction.

💛 This is the fourth e-book from the series “Journey to Yourself” – a cycle that step by step leads you to building stronger internal foundations. The fourth stage of this journey focuses on stability, safety and regaining balance in difficult moments.
